Sri Lanka is considering allowing tourists from a number of countries into the island nation without visas, with the hope of making the destination more attractive to tourists.
Tourism Development Minister John Amaratunga told Sri Lanka’s Business Times the move is “aimed at encouraging more people to visit Sri Lanka as immigration is ‘creating chaos’ for visitors to the country.”
“Some of the countries under consideration are India, China, Europe and West Asia,” the report added.
Currently, visitors to Sri Lanka are required to apply for a Sri Lankan visa online, which is a hassle-free and quick process but requires a brief wait time and fees, which is a hindrance the island’s government appears to be keen on eliminating.
